With zero warning at all, zero press, and zero idea, Kendrick Lamar has just released a new album out of the blue. And surprise, surprise, it has already hit the charts as number one of the Billboard 200’s
Kendrick Lamar, how best do you describe him? You could say he’s wickedly talented, you could name his most popular songs, or you could just say his name. One of the best rappers in history who can just release an album one random day and put his fans’ day at a halt, turning their world upside down and bringing them the perfect amount of serotonin they need. Lamars newest album, GNX, dropped November 22 perfect for anyone who needed to blast some music later that Friday day on their commute home from work. Not only did GNX get to the top 200 but it is third on 2024 third-biggest streaming week for an album.
The album is named after a car that is dear to his heart, Grand National Experimental. The album features 12 songs with features from incredible artists such as SZA and Kamasi Washington and legendary producer Jack Antonoff. The first song, “wacced out murals” is an absolutely astonishing way to open up an album. Featured in the beginning is talented Mexican mariachi singer, Deyra Barrera, along with a beautiful array of instruments playing an ominous classical track behind it. SZA is also featured on this album on the third song “luther” and the last song, “gloria.” On the third song, SZA and Lamar are heard harmonizing through the verses and it is something close to levitating. Two perfect people to be put together on a track and they absolutely crushed it. This album has a wide variety of songs, nothing sounding like the next and each having its own individual spirit. This album is nothing short of spectacular and I can promise you won’t be skipping any songs.
