John Kind isn’t just a stage name; it’s a statement of purpose. Born John Ravenell Jr. in Roxbury, Boston, John Kind reclaims softness in a world that taught him to be hard. Now based between Boston and LA, he’s an artist, educator, and founder of John Kind Studios, a creative hub blending music, media, and education for underrepresented voices.
His latest project, The Launch Blueprint, is more than music. It’s a movement. Designed to empower emerging artists through storytelling, production, and purpose, it’s a cinematic, spiritual, and street-rooted experience aimed at reshaping the creative economy for underserved communities.
From being retweeted by Erykah Badu to winning a grant from the Mass Cultural Council, John’s path hasn’t been easy, but it’s been divine. “I’ve faced poverty, betrayal, and racism,” he says. “But God doesn’t lose, so I didn’t either.” Now, he’s focused on scaling his vision nationally — building a flagship AV school, dropping healing-centered music, and partnering with creatives who value purpose over clout.
His sound is healing, heavy, hip-hop-laced soul — a blend of spoken word, drum kicks, and grit-filled gospel. Whether he’s crafting immersive 4D experiences like I Can’t Swim or mentoring youth through Mind Kanvas, John Kind leads with heart and builds with intention.
As he says, this isn’t just music. This is a ministry in motion. And the journey? It’s just beginning.
