Babyface releases ‘Girls Night Out’, an RnB album consisting of all women. It has an incredible lineup of today’s big artists including Ella Mai, Kehlani, Ari Lennox, Muni Long, and rising star Coco Jones.
The album opens up with a fun intro: a brief phone call between Lala Anthony and Angie Martinez. From there it smoothly transitions us into the first song: “Liquor (with Ari Lennox)”. Ari gives us phenomenal vocals with several impressive runs. After starting out on such a high note, it only seems to go up from there. Coco Jones on “Simple” comes in strong with a sweet and clear tone proving to us once again that she means business and is here to stay. The final track is the one that gives the album its name. Doechii’s “Girls Night Out” is dynamic and the perfect sign-off.
Overall, there is not one weak song on this album. Song after song helps perfectly piece together the image of what a girls’ night out feels like. Girls drinking and having fun, but often also taking a pause to talk with their friends about their troubles and their relationships.
This isn’t the first time Babyface has given us something like this. He also did this in 1995 for the Waiting to Exhale: Original Soundtrack Album. Giving us music from the greats like Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, TLC, and many more. These women, and others like them, paved the way for Women in music today. Working hard and overcoming endless struggles to do what they loved to do: make music and perform. These powerhouse vocalists opened so many doors for the artists we know and love today, and that will always be a part of their legacy.
‘Girls Night Out’ is available on all streaming platforms.
