Beyoncé has returned for her sequel to Renaissance titled Act II with pop-country single “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM”. The single is actually one of two singles that Beyoncé dropped on Feb. 11, the other track being titled “16 CARRIAGES”.
“TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” was released with an accompanying visualizer, a lyric video, and an instrumental and acapella version.
Feb. 11 was the Super Bowl LVIII game and Beyoncé took the opportunity to take everyone by surprise by utilizing a Super Bowl commercial to tease, announce, and release her two singles.
She partnered with Verizon for the commercial, which aired during the third quarter of the Super Bowl game.
In the commercial, Beyoncé makes multiple, extravagant attempts to break Verizon’s internet, but falls short each time. In the last few seconds of the commercial, Beyoncé says, “Okay, they ready! Drop the new music,” as a final attempt to break the internet.
With no one expecting the announcement during the Super Bowl, let alone in a Verizon commercial, I think it’s safe to say that she was successfully able to break the internet.
“TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” was the first single between the two that people heard.
Shortly after the Verizon Super Bowl commercial, Beyoncé posted a reel to Instagram announcing the single’s title and the release date for Act II, which is March 29. The reel also featured the first couple seconds of “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” as Beyoncé drives through dirt roads in a taxi with a license plate named after the single.
Based on the reel and visuals for the singles, Act II is confirmed to be a more country and western based genre, which Beyoncé has touched before with her track “Daddy Lessons” on her 2016 Lemonade album.
