Camila Cabello has surprised fans with a very different vibe than she normally goes for. The “Shameless” singer describes the album to Apple Music as having “pop melodies, but with rap structure.” From the beats, stylistic auto tune, and lyrical content, Cabello gets candid across many emotions, even if that means painting herself in a negative way. Vulnerability is a major aspect of this album, clueing us in on a side of herself we do not typically see.
It all started with the pre-released single “I LUV IT” featuring Playboi Carti, which reintroduced the Camila Cabello we know and love. Experimenting with a hyper-pop type of sound, fans were both shocked and intrigued by the track, building much anticipation for the album. “I LUV IT” quickly went viral on Tik Tok with some of the biggest creators on the app, including Alix Earle, recreating the choreography in the music video.
So far, the track “B.O.A.T.” has been a fan favorite, currently trending on Tik Tok. While it is well written and the 27-year-old sounds great on it, what grabbed fans attention is the sample of “Hotel Room Service” by Pitbull. The use of a classic party song on an emotional track adds a unique element that although seems unlikely to work, simply does.
‘C,XOXO’ has an overall “sad girl” vibe, but is riddled with fun moments as well such as “HE KNOWS” featuring Lil Nas X. The track is playful and sexy, all about testing the chemistry between two people. The bridge summarizes this theme with the lyrics, “He’s wrapped around my pinky finger / Watchin’ the way I move / More drunk on power than on liquor / And he knows it’s true.”
