Off of his debut album ‘DIAMONTE,’ Gordo’s track “Sideways” featuring Drake has become a fan favorite. The track is about having strong, romantic feelings for someone despite not being together. The lyrics, “But you were never my girl / It was just my turn / Then it turned Sideways / It was just my turn,” summarize this idea well and sets the tone for the rest of the track. Other standout lyrics that fit this concept are at the end of the track when Drake repeats “I can see you everywhere,” insinuating that he still thinks of her even though they were not official.
Gordo and Drake’s vibe matches nicely on this dance track, perfect for house parties, pre-games, vacations, and hanging out at home. It is overall more relaxed but carries a steady pace and incorporates fun beat drops. The pair also teamed up on the same album for the track “Healing,” which showcases a similar vibe; Moody yet upbeat.
The album was released back in July, making it just in time for late summer and early fall, thus far being successful. Having a big name like Drake as a collaborator is a huge accomplishment for a rising artist.
