After his latest successful album ‘Twelve Carat Toothache,’ Post Malone has returned with his new single “Chemical.” It is a fun, pop track perfect for the approaching summertime. Additionally, it is a bit different than Posty’s typical summer track when looking back at some of his other summer releases such as “Wow” and “Motley Crew.”
The track includes Malone strictly singing as opposed to adding rap or hip-hop into the mix. This is paired with a light-hearted instrumental focused on soft acoustic guitars. “Chemical” encapsulates the vibe of driving in the summertime with the windows down; So, fans thus far are pleased with the track.
Despite the fun feel, the lyrics have a more emotional story. The pre-chorus goes, “You break me, then I break my rules / Last time was the last time, too / It’s f****d up, I know, but I’m still.” Malone discusses wanting to change for the better but is constantly brought back down by a love interest, reverting him back to his old ways. He follows this up in the chorus saying “No, I can’t let go, it’s chemical.” This type of lyricism holds that Post Malone feel while adding some new elements into the mix.
