From dodging abortion to dedicating an Emmy to his late mother, Tres Carter—born and raised in Columbus, Ohio—is more than just an artist; he’s a legacy architect. With a name inspired by Jay Z, Lil Wayne, and a spiritual rebirth rooted in the Holy Trinity, Tres (pronounced “Trace”) is a lyrical storyteller blending hip-hop, faith, and healing into each track. His latest album, My Beautiful Dying Marriage, chronicles the raw truth of navigating love, trauma, and redemption as a Black creative during the pandemic—an honest narrative mirrored by his wife’s poetry book Bed of Roses: Thorns Included.
Now based in New Albany, OH, Tres juggles fatherhood, a thriving tech-forward role at COSI, and a growing music portfolio. He’s performed before thousands, survived loss and near-death moments, and continues creating with a purpose: “My words are my verbal journal—my legacy for generations.”
His style? Think Jay Z storytelling, Wayne punchlines, Andre 3000 flair, and Simon Sinek strategy—all wrapped in bold, thermostat-setting fashion. Independent, unapologetic, and fueled by faith, Tres is preparing to release a new album this fall touching on imposter syndrome and legacy while continuing to consult leaders on VR/AI innovation.
You can catch him live July 25th at One Church with Taelor Gray, Swoope, and more. Until then, stream his latest single “$500M” or the heartfelt “Married Up” on all platforms.
