Following the successful release of her hit track “After Hours,” Kehlani strikes again with “Next 2 U;” this now being the second pre-released single for her fourth studio album ‘Crash,’ just in time for the summer. “Next 2 U” although showcases Kehlani’s exquisite vocals, is very different from her typical RNB/Pop vibe. The track has a unique, ominous, romantic, and electronic instrumental, creating a powerful mood and setting the theme of dark-romance.
The track is all about her passion for her partner, and how she will never let anyone come in between their relationship. Kehlani sings in the chours, “They gon’, they gon’ have to come get me / They gon’ have to see about me to get next to you / They gon’, they gon’ have to call the law / I don’t care what they offer, I’m protecting you/ ‘Cause I never, never, no, no, thought I could put anybody before me.”
The contrast between “After Hours” and “Next 2 U” had left fans intrigued as to what the entirety of the album would sound like. ‘Crash’ has been out as of June 21st, so be sure to listen to the full thing.
