A little over a month after Kehlani dropped their latest single “After Hours”, she released a remixed version titled “Cater 2 U Mix” on May 24.
Kehlani made a music comeback after two years with “After Hours”. She had two features prior to “After Hours” on tracks with Diddy and YoungBoy Never Broke Again, but Kehlani’s last project was blue water road back in 2022.
The original version of “After Hours” samples the 2004 hit, “Move Ya Body”, by Nina Sky, which also samples the song “Coolie Dance Riddim” by Jamaican producer Cordel Burrell.
With the samples, Kehlani made a hit that brought good vibes just in time for the summer. In fact, Kehlani revealed herself that the process of creating “After Hours” came out of a day of surfing and being on a beach in San Diego.
As for “After Hours – Cater 2 U Mix”, the entire track pays homage to Destiny’s Child’s “Cater 2 U”. Kehlani’s vocal tracks for “After Hours” plays over the instrumental track of “Cater 2 U”, giving the song a more slower, R&B feel.
