After much anticipation, Megan Thee Stallion has returned with her latest album ‘MEGAN,’ her first release as an independent artist. The album is filled with cool features including Victoria Monet, Kyle Richh, GloRIlla, and more. Although she does stick with her usual flow and energy, there is some experimentation with the overall sound. An example of this is the difference in instrumentals between “COBRA” and “Otaku Hot Girl,” showcasing Megan’s duality.
The self-titled album has 18 tracks, including pre-releases “COBRA,” “HISS,” and “BOA.” Whether it be herself shedding her old skin, or speaking on others that have done her dirty, she uses the snake motif all throughout the album to represent various aspects of her life. On many of the tracks she gets very vulnerable, disclosing information about her mental health, speaking about the public scrutiny she was under just some months ago, being cheated on, missing her family, and so many other topics that many rappers fear to discuss; It is overall refreshing for rap listeners and adds something different to the current state of rap.
Thus far, the tracks “Otaku Hot Girl” and “Mamushi (feat. Yuki Chiba)” have been making big waves on Tik Tok. Fans love how Megan is openly passionate about enjoying anime, making the two tracks a big success. The “Cry Baby” rapper is currently on tour, with many fans showing up in popular anime cosplay attire; Both Megan and her fans seem to be having a lot of fun city to city.
