TORY LANEZ RELEASES PRISON TAPES

In the span of a little over a week, Tory Lanez released four singles as part of his mixtape series titled Prison Tapes from July 26 to August 2. These four singles were “Cell 245”, “Wish I Never Met You”, “Shots Come For Free”, and “Know What You Need”.

Before Prison Tapes began its rollout, Lanez announced that he and his engineer had worked out a way for him to record and release music effectively and consistently while he is currently serving a 10 year sentence in prison.

His plan was to record his music over the jail phone, which actually added an element to one of the tracks as Lanez kept it as if it were actually him on the phone line.

“Cell 245” was the first single from Prison Tapes to be released on July 26. This track was the one that included an actual recording from Lanez on the jail phone. The title of the track is also a reference to Lanez’s jail cell number.

“Know What You Need” was the last single to be released off of Prison Tapes on August 2. This track showcases Lanez’s range as an artist as it has a more R&B feel compared to the hard beats and rap lines on “Cell 245”.
