THROWBACK THURSDAY: “DAY ‘N’ NITE” BY KID CUDI

Written By: Vincent Miron

Arguably the biggest song of Kid Cudi’s career is ‘’Day ’n’ Nite’’.

This song was an industry leap back in 2009. Featuring some of the most recognizable Techno and EDM sounds that we see in today’s style, only, Cudi was amongst the first ones to implement this new style to Rap and Hip Hop. This year celebrates its fourteenth year since coming out. Revisiting this track will make you remember how much a masterpiece it is.

The hook features some of the catchiest lyrics ever like: « Day and Night, the lonely stoner seems to free his mind at night. The lonely loner seems to free his mind at night. ». These lyrics have a deeper meaning than the rest of the song. In his early days, Cudi said in a TED Talk how he writes about his own struggles and personal experience. Another thing the rapper did differently and was successful is the split between an upbeat beat and down lyrics.

You will find yourself rapping along however you’re feeling. Finishing it off we the incredible beat that takes some sounds from current-gen music. There is no doubt that if ‘’Day ‘n’ Nite’’ came out today it will be as big. Because it contains the ingredients for a timeless hit. Earning its Throwback Thursday spot!
