Last Month, the biggest award show in Black entertainment took place: The 2025 BET Awards. The Album of the Year went just as everyone predicted in that Kendrick Lamar & his ‘GNX’ took album of the year after the monstrous year he has already had. He also took home Video of the Year with his super viral hit ‘Not Like Us’ and the video that was just as viral. Kendrick left the awards with a version of a 3 peat when he also took home Male Hip Hop Artist of the Year.

Chris Brown took home the Viewers Choice Award with ‘Residuals’. ‘Residuals’ had gained a lot of traction on social media over the last couple months. The 11:11 Singer also took home Best Male R&B Artist in one of the most competitive years we’ve seen in recent memory. New sensation Doechii won her first BET Award with Best Female Hip Hop Artist. The TDE artist delivered a powerful speech about the ongoing LA riots as she accepted her award. Another TDE artist in SZA took home Best Female R&B/Pop Artist with her run with SOS and going on a co-headliner arena tour with Kendrick Lamar. Her and Lamar even shared another award with Best Collaboration, totaling TDE at six awards out of 14 music categories.

As far as the remaining awards, Future & Metro Boomin took home Best Group for their two albums: ‘We Don’t Trust You’ and ‘We Still Don’t Trust You’. GloRilla won the Dr. Bobby Jones award for her song ‘Rain Down on Me’ which had a different vibe from her general music and included gospel elements and gospel artist Kirk Franklin. The HER Award went to Summer Walker as she continues her dominance in the R&B game. The Best International Act went to Ayra Starr as she has became a superstar in the Afro Beats scene. The Best New International Act went to TxC, a DJ out of South Africa. The BET Awards is a time where black music and entertainment is celebrated. We are grateful that they have been able to continue this and the culture will stay tuned to anything BET does.
