If you haven’t heard YG’s ‘Toxic’ on social media, where have you been?!
Although released this past Friday (August 12th), a snippet has been circulating for months, racking up more than 40,000 videos on TikTok alone. Sampling Mary J. Blige’s 1994 track, ‘Be Happy’, YG absolutely did not come to play on this song. Sharing a story of a complicated relationship between him and another woman, the Compton rapper explains that he loves her and she’s met his family but he doesn’t want to give what they have a label. The song ends with R&B and Gospel artist, Uncle Chucc, praying that the relationship ends so no more hearts are broken and no more babies are made.
A music video also accompanies the song on YouTube with stunning lighting and visuals. Throughout the video, YG is on a date with a woman at the beach and the scene then cuts to him and a different woman dancing in a white room. The woman from the beach date finds out about his relationship and alleged pregnancy with Instagram star, Brittney Renner and things definitely get toxic!
Needless to say, YG and his director, Austin Simkins had a vision in mind and executed things perfectly!
