The two rappers Nas and 21 Savage teamed up to release their new single titled “One Mic, One Gun.” Many fans were shocked by this collaboration since it follows a potential quarrel between the superstars just two weeks prior. Despite this, the pair squashed the alleged beef and created a track displaying their impact to the rap game.
The song title itself can be deemed as a callback to “One Mic,” Nas’s 2002 hit off of his ‘Stillmatic’ album. However, adding “One Gun” adds a new-age twist to the classic track. This collaboration of both old and new rappers asks audiences to respect and acknowledge how rap legends such as Nas paved the way, but also make room for newer artists such as 21 Savage to use said path created.
Nas backs-up his legendary status rapping, “No back and forth, I did it back then, I do it right now/ I opened a lane for my era, I’m goated they gave me the crown.” Following up with his verse, 21 goes in, “I’m on that same trajectory/ Bullet wounds and jail cells couldn’t stop me, this my destiny.” With a cool beat and meaningful lyrics, fans are sure to be pleased with the new song.
